LG boss dolls out N20.8m scholarships, bursary in Ebonyi

Executive Chairman of Ishielu local government area of Ebonyi state, Mr. John Onwe, has distributed the sum of twenty million, eight hundred thousand Naira to university students from the area.

He gave N10.8million scholarship award to 18 first year students and 6 students in their 300 levels in different universities in Ebonyi.

He also gave N10million bursary to 500 university students.

Distribution of the education fund was done during inauguration of committee members on Her Excellency, Mrs. Mary-Maudline Nwifuru’s pet project, Better Life for Rural Women, Children and Internally Displaced Persons (BERWO) in the local government.

The Governor’s wife personally flagged off the commencement of the education fund distribution.

Also inaugurated was the world Bank health facility, Education and hand pump borehole projects instituted in some areas of the LGA.

Mrs. Nwifuru in her speech said, “Today, the projects we are commissioning represent a commitment to progress, innovation, and inclusivity. We are commissioning key projects that stand as a major foundation for growth and development.

“Education and health are priorities in ‘The People’s Charter of Needs’ mantra of Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru. In Ntezi Community, we are commissioning constructed secondary classroom block and health center while in Ugboenyim Community, we are commissioning Box Culvert (Erosion Control).

“In keeping with the tenets of The People’s Charter of Needs, I will today, enroll 100 persons, between 0-5 years and our aged fathers and mothers into Ebonyi State Health Insurance Scheme, FREE OF CHARGE.

“Again, Health is second on our priority list as Government. We will leave no stone unturned in our sincere quest to complement the good efforts of our Governor in giving our people, the best health care service delivery”.

Meanwhile, Onwe explained that scholarship award and bursary was meant for the indigent citizens from the local government area.
He noted that “18 year one students to receive 500 thousand naira each while 6 of 300 level students were to receive 300 thousand naira each.

“The bursary is for 500 students of Ishielu, each of them are to receive 20 thousand naira each, totalling”.
