Kogi student appeals for payment of bursary

The National Association of Kogi State  Students (NAKOSS) have appealed to Kogi state government to pay their bursary allowance before the November 16 Governorship election in the state , warning students of kogi origin not to embark on any protest.

The National President of NaKOSS, Comrade Moses Adeiza Audu, who made the appeal in Lokoja Tuesday, at a press conference,  said the union for several months now have been preventing students from a plan protest to expressed their grievance over the non payment of the allowance.

He, however, praised the governor for increasing the students  bursary allowance by 300 per cent last year , noting that no governor since the creation of the state in 1991 have ever done that.

According to him “The governor kept to his promise of paying scholarship to Kogi state regularly, but the students are yet to receive the 2019 allowance . The students are worried and we are appealing to him to pay without further delay.

“We don’t want to go into the election divided as a result of non payment of bursary as we are resolute to throw our weight behind the candidature of the governor”

The student’s union lauded the governor for paying  school fees to some indigent students who are from poor background.

He commended the governor for the  proscription of ASUU , saying students no longer face unnecessary strike that retard the date of their graduation.

“We know the type of governor and the deputy governor we have, they are leaders who have the welfare of their people at heart especially students , youth and women and I am optimistic that very soon our demand will be met by the government.

“I am appealing that we give them more time as we are also planning to pay a courtesy visit on the governor”

Comrade Audu also used the occasion to caution students across the 21 local government areas of the state not to allow themselves to be use by over ambitious politicians as tool for electoral violence.
