Kogi lauds FG over ‘Project 774 LG Connectivity’

The Kogi State Government has commended the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy for the ongoing Project 774 LG Connectivity, saying that an improved access to internet will improve service delivery at the Local Government level.

The project, according to the ministry, is expected to provide local governments with reliable and affordable internet access and resources required to deliver efficient public service and stimulate economic growth.

Kogi state Commissioner for Information and Communications, Hon. Kingsley Fanwo, gave the commendation in Kabba recently during the installation of the connectivity facility at the Kabba/Bunu local government secretariat by officials of the Nigerian Communications Satellite Limited (NigComSat) and Galaxy Backbone.

He said: “The initiative heralds an ambitious step by the Federal Government to enhance service delivery by officials at the third tier of the government. The Government of Kogi State sees the Project 774 Connectivity as an ambitious driver to enhance digitization at the local government level and to bring home the benefits of internet penetration.

“I am happy to launch this here today on behalf of the Governor, Government and People of Kogi State. This pilot phase will cover five Local Government Areas of Lokoja, Kabba/Bunu, Okene, Okehi and Bassa. The next scheme will cover all the remaining local government areas in the state.

“The choice of a global force in the IT World, Dr Bosun Tijani as Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy will no doubt expose Nigeria to good opportunities that will revolutionize our ICT Culture and opportunities.”

Fanwo, however, assured the federal government that the beneficiaries would put the facilities to good use, saying that it was a bold step in providing digital public infrastructure in government offices across the country.
