Kano emir tasks parents on polio

Emir of Kano, Alhaji Lamido Sanusi Lamido, has described the routine immunisation against polio as the “only way” the menace could be wiped out.
Speaking at the inauguration of Kano pilot for District Health Information System held at the Royal Tropicana Hotel, Kano, Sanusi said Kano had been consistent in waging the crusade against polio, stressing that without the support and cooperation of parents the effort would turn out to be in exercise in futility.

The emir, who spoke through the District Head of Ajingi, Alhaji Wada Aliyu Gaya, gave the assurance that by December 2015, polio would completely be eradicated in Kano.
He said: “I am here today representing the Emir of Kano knowing the importance the Emirate Council attached to the eradication of the menace. The level of our commitment is unprecedented and we are confident that the set objective would be realised.”

In his welcome address, the Executive Secretary Kano State Primary Healthcare Management Board, Dr. Shehu Usman Abdullahi, said the multi-million naira project was huge and crucial to the attainment of the quest for eradicating polio, stressing however that Kano was the first to set the ball rolling.
He, however, stated that Kano was up and doing in lending credence to the routine immunisation exercise, adding that the future of the younger generation could only be guaranteed and safeguarded with the adoption of sophisticated innovations to confront the menace.

“Kano is in the fore front of confronting the menace and we shall continue to be consistent in supporting any move to eradicate the menace. We are serious and we will be up and doing,” he said.
He called on parents to comprehend the good intention of the government adding that nothing was more important than to extend a hand of cooperation.
