Kano CJ sets up performance review committee for magistrates

The Kano state Chief Judge, Justice Dije Abdu-Aboki, has set up performance and evaluation committee to assess the performance of magistrates in order to ensure good administration of justice in the state.

A statement issued by spokesman of Kano state judiciary, Baba Jibo Ibrahim, said Justice Aboki  stated this during a meeting with magistrates at the High Court on Monday.

She said magistracy is closer to the people at the grassroots and therefore magistrates should exhibit a high sense of commitment to the preservation of the rule of law.

Justice Aboki urged the magistrates to refrain from taking cases that are not assigned to them by the authorities, as it is a flagrant abuse of office and attracts serious disciplinary action.

She also warned them that issuing ex-parte orders without application and proper recording is an infraction.

He called on the magistrates to take full control of their courts and supervise their registries to minimise common infractions such as cases without date.
