Director of Higher Education, Kaduna state Ministry of Education, Mr. John Bala Gora, has said of the 4286 pupils in the state’s primary one to three pupils, barely 300 benefited from the federal government school feeding programme.
According to him, over 11, 000 cooks and vendors were involved in the ongoing programme while a lot of schools and cooks involved in the state school feeding programme
were yet to be cleared.
Speaking when the Deputy Majority Leader, Bauchi Assembly led some members to Kaduna state Assembly on a visit to cross-fertilise ideas on the ongoing school feeding programme, the director assured that processes were ongoing to ensure that all schools, cooks and vendors yet to be cleared were cleared, noting that in the federal government feeding programme, “each cook officially prepares food for 150 pupils daily at a rate of N70 per pupil.”
He said the federal government refunded N3.4 billion out of the N6.8 billion incurred as expenses by the state in 2016, explaining that, under the 26 weeks of its schools feeding programme in 2016, the state spent N9.5 billion in which N6.8 billion was expected to be refunded back by the federal government as part of its component of feeding primary one to three.
