A former Publicity Secretary of the defunct National Party of Nigeria (NPN), Chief Abiola Ogundokun, has raised the alarm over alleged threat to his life by the Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi.
He raised the allegation against the monarch yesterday in a suit he instituted at state High Court, Osogbo.
Ogundokun, who called the attention of the judge to the online video threat by the monarch, said Oluwo had made several attempts to assassinate him.
When the case came up yesterday, counsel to the plaintiff, Mr. Soji Oyetayo, urged the court to hear his motion “since the respondent has refused to reply after he has been served the motion on notice.”
But counsels to the defendant, Chief Laide Yekeen and Abimbola Ige, said they had filed a memorandum of appearance for the defendant in June this year when they learnt that there was move to settle the matter, explaining that they “just received another motion thus knowing that the settlement was not successful.”
The counsels, however, urged the court to grant them adjournment in the interest of justice, promising that they would respond appropriately.
Objecting to the adjournment, Oyetayo told the court that the plaintiff was not aware of any move to settle and the defendant had never approached his client for any settlement.
Justice Adedoja Ayoola, however, directed the respondent to pay the necessary fine and adjourned the matter to November 28, 2017 for hearing.
Meanwhile, Chief Ogundokun has written the police over the alleged threat to his life by the monarch.
A copy of petition submitted to the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone XI Command headquarters, Osogbo, yesterday, alleged that the monarch has been threatening him.
“Oluwo has become so emboldened to the level of intensifying his threats and acts of violence on my life,” he stated.
