Kaduna: Police kill ‘rampaging’ Gunmen, 1 Officer sustains injury, dies in gun clash


Three gunmen and a policeman were killed Wednesday morning following a gunfight that ensued after unknown gunmen attacked Mothercat Construction Company in Mando, outskirts of Kaduna. 
The gunmen were killed by the policemen defending the company, while one of the two policemen who sustained injury during the shootout, a sergeant, died later died while receiving treatment from the wounds. The other injured policeman, an inspector, was treated and discharged. 
Police said they are on the trail of two of the gunmen, who reportedly escaped with gunshot wounds. 


According to a statement from the Kaduna State Police Command, signed by Deputy Commissioner of Police, Finance and Administration, DCP Onah A. Sunny, one of the policemen that repelled the attack later died while receiving treatment from gun wounds sustained, while another who is injured, has been treated and discharged.
“I feel obliged to brief you this morning following an incident that occurred today 03/04/19 at about 0540hrs when some armed men entered the Mothercat company at Mando area shooting sporadically and attacking policemen on guard duty. 


“The gallant policemen engaged the hoodlums in a fierce gun duel. They repelled the attack and in the process gunned down three of them. During the fierce gun duel, two of our men AP NO 161126 Insp Bijimi Maiyaki,  F/No 251990 SGT Kabiru Shuaibu attached to Ops yaki sustained injuries and rushed to 44 Army Reference Hospital for treatment. 


“However, the NCO died while receiving treatment while the Insp was treated and discharged. Exhibits recovered from the hoodlums included four AK 47 Rifles; eight magazines with one 130 live ammo, five pieces of suspected Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) and a Golf Wagon vehicle with REG Number W 812 FST. 


“Teams of operatives are still on the trail of the remaining two hoodlums who escaped with bullet injuries. We will update you on later successes in due course.
“The Command highly appreciates the support of the public and the media in our collective stride to bring crime and criminality in Kaduna state down,” he added.


The police appealed to members of the public to assist them with prompt and relevant information on any suspicious movement in their respective neighbourhood to ensure effective proactive crime prevention efforts.
