The Catholic priest abducted in the early hours of Thursday from St. Gerald’s Quasi Parish, Kurmin Risga, in Kauru local government area of Kaduna State, Rev. Fr. Ibrahim Amoas has regained his freedom.
The priest was released by his abductors around 10:00 pm Thursday, less than 24 hours after he was taken from his residence by suspected bandits.
Fr. Amos was reportedly kidnapped from his residence around 12:15am by suspected bandits who broke into the parish premises.
His release was confirmed in a statement on Friday by the Chancellor of the Catholic Diocese of Kafanchan, Rev. Fr. Jacob Shanet.
While the statement did not indicate whether any ransom was paid, the Diocese thanked security agencies and members of the public for their prayers and concern.
Fr. Shanet described the swift response and solidarity shown by the public as “evidence that the Church is not alone in the fight to uphold human dignity.”
“This clarification is issued in good faith, with a strong desire to promote understanding, mutual respect, and responsible civic engagement,” he added.
