January transfer: Manchester United go for Timo Werner

Manchester United are interested in signing Timo Werner in the January transfer window, it has been reported.

United have already approached RB Leipzig about a possible deal for the forward in the winter, Sky Sport reports. There have been no official offers or negotiations between the two teams as of yet. Real Madrid have also been linked with him but are not pushing to sign him at the moment.

Werner is not completely happy with his situation at Leipzig. He has started just two of the eight Bundesliga games in which he has featured this season and scored two goals. However, he is said to be willing to wait until the summer transfer window before contemplating a move away.

Werner returned to RB Leipzig in 2022 after two rough years at Chelsea, where he scored 23 goals in 89 games across all competitions. He had a decent start to his return to Germany as he struck nine times in 27 Bundesliga games, but has fallen out of favour this term.

United may have a hard time convincing Werner to return to the Premier League due to his disappointing experience in England with Chelsea and his reported intention to stay and fight for his place in the Leipzig starting XI between now and the end of the season.
