IWD: Women are gradually picking up – SCI

The advocacy and community Mobilization Officer for Save the Children International Yobe state Field Office, Wasiu Ogungbemi, says although women were left behind, they are gradually picking up.

Mr Wasiu made this known at an event to commemorate International Women’s Day (IWD) by Save the Children International in collaboration with Yobe state ministry of women affairs in Damaturu.

He noted that,they are commemorating the international women’s day with the themes “Invest in Women and Accelerate Progress”, to bring Women and children from schools and reach out to carrier women that are successful in different carrier path in the state.

“We want to discuss with these women, their challenges and the prospect and to inspire them so that they can become successful in the future.We have different professions such as doctors, lawyers among others professions.

“Basically the women’s day is an avenue to create awareness for equality for women, that is give women the opportunity to participates in decision making in politics among other profession”,said wasiu.

On his part, the Commissioner Yobe state ministry for women affairs,Ya Jalo Badama said, the ministry of women affairs’ role is to mobilize all professional women and also some of their beneficiaries more especially the dropout and some school children to come and interact with the professional women that have gone through so many things in life and become who they are today.

Represented by the Director women affairs, Fatsuma Hassan Yusuf, Ya Jalo stated that this is a significant programme as they want the young children to be confident and know how to become somebody some day.
