The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Administration has in the last one month carried out structural stability tests on 48 abandoned buildings in the territory to ascertain their strength or otherwise.
Minister of FCT, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, said this yesterday during the enlarged Operations Briefing Session at his official residence, Life-Camp.

The minister said one of the buildings on Plot 3, Sabongida District, however, failed the integrity test and has, therefore, been demolished according to statutory Urban and Regional Planning regulations.
The minister said FCT Administration through its Department of Development Control also removed two abandoned but failed structures in Apo Mechanic Workshop.

He said the FCT municipal management has ‘remarkably’ improved in, as he expressed displeasure over poor sanitary condition at the area councils and called for immediate reversal by the chairmen of the six councils.
He said the administration would not condone poor sanitary condition at any level within the 8,000 square kilometres of the FCT.
“We cannot fold our arms to watch the area councils abdicate one of their primary responsibilities of refuse collection and general cleanliness,” he said.

On the activities of the Ministerial Special Task Team on city cleaning and management, the minister said, 636 hawkers/traders were arrested and 386 have so been convicted with 68 sentenced.
The task team has also arrested 166 beggars/destitute; 863 commercial motorcycles; 432 tricycles and 50 commercial sex worker since its flag-off on March 17, 2014.
