The INEC Returning Officer for Borno state Governorship election Professor Alhassan Muhammad Gani has declared Professor Banagana Umara Zulum of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the 2019 Governorship election in the state.
Gani said the APC candidate scored the highest votes cast (1175440 ) across the 27 LGAs and met the two third requirement of votes cast in the 27 local government areas (LGA) of the state to defeat his closest opponent Mohammed Alkali Imam of the PDP who scored a total of 66115 votes with a margin of 1,109,325 votes between them.
“Having met the major requirements and scored the highest votes of 1.17 million, Professor Zulum of the APC was duly returned and declared winner of the Governorship election as Governor – elect.”
The Returning Officer however said that out of total registered voters of 2316218 across the 27 LGAs of the state, there was a total of 1292138 accredited voters and a total of 1266967 valid votes while the total rejected votes stood at 22,060.
