Ikeja games off to flying start

The maiden edition of the Ikeja games organised by the member representing Ikeja Federal Constituency Honorable Abiodun James Faleke in conjunction with the National Institute for Sports (NIS) got underway in Lagos on Tuesday January 17 with 10 events to be competed for.

According to the Director-General of NIS Professor Olawale Moronkola, “We are partnering with Honourable James Faleke to further develop sports in line with our core mandate. The Ikeja Games is one in the series of activities geared towards ensuring that NIS takes her strategic place in charting the right course for Nigerian Sports. We shall continue to partner with critical stakeholders to execute our objectives as the foremost sports Institute in Africa.”

The DG thanked Honourable Faleke for contributing to grassroots sports development in Ikeja and admonished the participants to be of good conduct and also exhibit the spirit of sportsmanship throughout the mini games festival.

Ten events including Football, basketball, Chess, Snooker, Dart, Table Tennis, Ayo Olopon, Scrabble, Draughts among others are being competed for across various venues in Ikeja, Lagos.

The event will climax with the final of football event at the Police College, Ikeja on February 12, 2023.
