How we built community resilience against violent extremism in last 20 months – ActionAid

ActionAid Nigeria (AAN) Monday says it has over the past 20 months built community resilience against violent extremism in the country.

The Country Director, Andrew Mamedu, stated this at the inauguration of Partnership Against Violent Extremism (PAVE) Network and partners Technical Steering Committee and Commencement of Theory of Change workshop 2024 in Abuja on Monday .

Mamedu who was represented by the Governance Programme Manager, ActionAid Nigeria, Judith Gbagidi, further explained that they handed livelihood equipment worth N 100,000,000 (71,428.5 USD) to 600 youth and women in Kaduna and Kano states.

She said the theory of change (ToC) workshop is looking forward to enhancing communication, co-create a shared vision, develop casual intervention pathways, and discuss assumptions to strengthen the processes of developing the KIRH.

She said, it will also foster collaboration and ensure its alignment with broader PCVE objectives and the overall achieve the development of State Action Plan (SAP) and Local Action Plan (LAP) at the targeted states.

She explained that ActionAid Nigeria (AAN) recently got additional grant from Global Community and Engagement Fund (GCERF) to scale up and mainstream PCVE in Nigeria.

According to her, the scale up is under round III of the System and Structure Strengthening Approach against Radicalization to Violent Extremism (SARVE) Project in Kano, Kaduna State, Katsina and Sokoto states.

In her remarks the Assistant Director, National Counter Terrorism Center (NCTC), Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), Kaula Eunice, explained that the NCTC by law, is mandated to coordinate all PCVE activities of both state and non-state actors in the country.

She said the PAVE network is also mentioned in the framework as a critical partner in PCVE implementation in the country.

She said as the framework is up for review, this partnership will be assessed to ensure that its objectives are fully met.

Also, the Chairman Steering Committee , Jaye Gaskia explained that PAVE is a network of Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) that are programmed around preventing Countering Violent Extremism in Nigeria .

He said the network is recognised in the national policy, framework and action plan as CSO coordination action plan.

” The network will create a platform that is both digital and physical in repositioning of knowledge and resource materials on PCVE Knowledge, amongst others, ” he said.
