Gusau reads riot act to inaugurated NPFL board

President of the Nigeria Football Federation, Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau has  inaugurated the board of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) with strict warning that they should take seriously the enforcement of the Club Licensing requirements.

Gusau while inaugurating the board at the boardroom of the NFF at Package B of the Moshood Abiola National stadium on Wednesday morning revealed that the board has a two year league season’s tenure.

“Club Licensing is a fundamental football development trajectory that the new board must take very seriously. Therefore, I charge the new board to set a target which must be met by all clubs as prerequisite for participation in the league. I also want you to set a percentage compliance on Club Licensing requirements for each club, so that every season, you can measure the extent of adherence by each  club,” he said.

In the short and colourful ceremony attended by the Edo state deputy governor, Hon Phillip Shuaibu, Gusau as exclusively reported by this paper warned the board against using any other name for the league insisting that only NPFL is recognized by the NFF.

“If you want to change the name of the league, bring it to the Congress for approval,” he said.

He also clarified the status of three representatives of the club on the board, stating that any club chairman who loses his position as chairman of his club ceases to be a member of the board.

“I charge you to do more as your first tenure as Interim Management Committee, IMC, was commendable. For the first

time NPFL Champions got N100m. I urge you to do more to attract more sponsors,“ he stated.

Responding on behalf of the newly inaugurated board, Hon.Gbenga Elegbeleye, promised that the new board will do a thorough job in the Club Licensing requirements and strive to improve on the gains of the league for last seasons.

“We are ready to improve on our performances of last seasons,” Elegbeleye stated.

In attendance were the Chairman of the NPFL, Gbenga Elegbeleye, Mohammed Nasiru Sa’idu, Barr. Poubeni Ogun, Daniel Amokachi, Chief Okey Kpalukwu, Suleiman Umar, and former international, Dominic Iorfa.


The Secretary/Legal Adviser of the board, Danlami Ibrahim, was also in attendance likewise the Chief Operating Officer, Davidson Owumi.
