Group sensitizes Yobe community on exclusive breastfeeding, immunization

A Non-Governmental Organisation, Yobe, Young Generation Association (YOYGEDA) on Wednesday carried out a sensitization programme to enlighten communities on the importance of adopting exclusive breast feeding, immunization among others.

The event which took place at Gadaka in Fika local government council was aimed at creating awareness at the grassroots on nutrition education, disease prevention, maternal and child health education, outbreaks of Lassa fever and other issues of public health.

Adamu Muazu, the Executive Director of the YOYGEDA, said “There is need for regular engagement with traditional and religious leaders as well as communities to be able to change their negative mindset towards health-related issue”.

 Blueprint gathered that as result of cultural belief many had become victim of outbreaks of deseases in the area while many are still into postpartum hot water bath in the community. The group challenged participants to adhere strictly to the knowledge acquired and put it into practice.
