Nigeria Women in Clergy has called for psychosocial support for victims of trauma and bomb blasts following the increasing insecurity situation of the country.
Its President, Ms Nonnie Robinson, made the call when she led some members of the group on a courtesy call on the Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajiya Zainab Maina.
Robinson said majority of Nigerians who lost relatives or were victims of bomb blasts and abductions, experienced emotional traumas, and urged programmes that would provide succor for them.
She said: “We need to realise that a large number of Nigerians who lost their relatives in the recent blasts are going through a lot psychologically.

“There is a need for policies and programmes that would help to provide succor for this group of persons; this will go a long way in helping them to adapt to normal living after the loss they have suffered.”
Describing such people as “forgotten,” Robinson stressed the need to support them so that they could live normal lives as citizens of the country.
She said the association was working to create a national consciousness on the need to empower women, adding that “they are the builders of the nation.”
She also said the association had put in place a mechanism on spiritual stand against injustices and promotion of good governance.
Responding, the Minister said the ministry had developed psycho-social support programme aimed at providing succour for victims of violence, stressing that it would be implemented in partnership with development partners.
