FPS rolls out free Insurance coverage for Journalists

The Fourth-Estate Professional Society (FPS) has signed a free accident and Life Insurance Policy Coverage for members last Friday.

By virtue of the gesture extended to its members, the newly registered Journalism professional association in Nigeria has not only made good one of  it’s promises, but have also broken the ice.

In a statement by the national Secretariat, the body National President, Dr. Babatunde Salami noted that all the foundation cum registered members of various grade status who were inducted last February, have now been covered via a free Insurance Policy scheme.

The statement explained further that beneficiaries have been covered against any form of domestic or traffic accident, permanent disability and also cash benefit to the next of kin of members in case of death as a result of accident.

Confirming the development in a telephone chat with Blueprint, Dr. Salami said, ” The Accident Policy covers all forms of accidents and a member is entitled to fifty thousand Naira benefit per number of accident involved within a policy year.

” In case of permanent disability as a result of accident, a member is entitled to a one term One hundred thousand Naira while in case of death as a result of accident, the next of kin of such member will have a claim of two hundred thousand Naira for burial and family up keep,” Salami confirmed,”

Apart from the free Insurance scheme, other benefits a prospective members would enjoyed according to the statement are; training, re-training, on the job training of members, National and International Journalism Seminars and Workshops.

While urging practicing Journalists to key into the opportunity provided by the association, Dr. Salami nevertheless expressed regrets that 21st century media employers have not seen reasons to insured Journalists.
