Former House Leader emerges 7th Osun Assembly Speaker


Former leader of Osun state House of Assembly, Hon. Timothy Owoeye, has emerged speaker of the 7th assembly in the state.
Owoeye who represents Ilesa East state constituency, returned for the fourth term. He succeeded Hon. Najeem Salaam who has spent two terms as the speaker of the assembly.


A member representing Boluwaduro/Boripe constituency, Hon. Simeon Femi Popoola, was also sworn in as the Deputy speaker by the clerk of the house, Mr. Samuel Amusan.


It was gathered that party leaders insisted on the choice of Owoeye because of his loyalty, especially when he was the minority leader of the house under the PDP led Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola.


A member, representing Irewole/Isokan constituency, Olanrewaju Mahruf, was nominated as the majority leader, while Olatunji Babatunde Lekan representing Ife North emerged as the Chief Whip.


Other principal of the house are: Kunle Akande representing Olorunda constituency, deputy majority leader, Gbenga Ogunkanmi representing Ayedire constituency, deputy chief whip.


A member representing Ede North constituency, Adewumi Babatunde, emerged as minority leader among the three members of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)


The state Governor Gboyega Oyetola, promised to respect the rule of law in dealing with the 7th assembly.

He urged them to also respect the party supremacy and the law in the discharge of their function.
