Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa state has urged all non-governmental organisations in the state to always give priority to people leaving in rural communities in carrying out their activities to tackle the challenges of poverty and unemployment.
The governor, who was represented by the state Commissioner for Education and Human Development, Dr. Garba Umar Pella, stated this Tuesday in Yola, while speaking at the graduation ceremony of 175 adolescent Adamawa children, who were trained and provided with starter pacts by safe children initiative in collaboration with Education can’t wait.
Fintiri further charged them to always align their projects and programmes with the mandate of the various ministries for efficiency and effectiveness.
Earlier, the state team lead, Abdulrasheed Mohammed, said the adolescent children who couldn’t go to school for one reason or the other were selected from 8 communities of Yola North and Yola South local government areas and trained on various skills such as tailoring, computer operation, catering, barbing among other skills; hence the need to give them starter packs to start their business.
According to him, they have been operating in the state in the last 2 years and the enabling environment created for them by the state government had also heloped them to recently attract 3 other projects in the state.
Speaker of Adamawa state children parliament, Aishatu Yasmin said the NGO in the last two years of its operation have enrolled over 1000 children into formal school and trained others on various skills.
