Equity market closes in bullish run, gains N240bn

The Domestic equity market on Thursday returned to bullish run, appreciating by N240 billion 

Market capitalisation of listed equities increased by 0.37 per cent to N65.499 trillion from N65.259 trillion reported the previous day.

The NGX All Share Index also appreciated by 381.93 basis points to 104233.81 points from 103851.88 points recorded on Wednesday.

The position performance of the during the day was driven by gains in the shares of Oando Plc, Access Holdings company, Nigerian Breweries, United Bank for Africa among others. As result year to date return stood at 1.27 per cent as 23 firms closed in positive note against 24 companies that took negative direction.

An analysis of the trading during the day showed that Abbey Building Society led gainers table, gaining 9.94 percent to N8.96 per unit, Nigerian Breweries followed with a gain of 9.86 per cent to close at N36.20 per unit, ABC Transport added 9.23 per cent to close at N1.42 per share, Live Stock gained 9.20 percent to close at N9.50 per share, Ecobank Transnational incorporated gained 8.94 per cent to close at N29.25 per share.

On the contrary, SUNU Assurance topped losers chart, declining by 9.91 per cent to close at N5.00, EllahLakes trailed with a loss of 9.76 per cent to N3.05 per  share, Cornerstone Insurance 9.44 per cent to close at N2.59 per unit, Sovereign Trust Insurance down by 9.18 per cent to N0.89 per unit , while Universal insurance down by 7.55 per cent to close at N0.49 per unit.

Volume of transactions during the day rose by 24.637 million representing 7.01 percent as investors traded 376.292 million shares valued at N7.905 billion in 11204 deals against 351.655 million worth N13.710 billion in 12241 deals.

Transactions in the shares of 89.266 million shares valued at N44.368 million, Fidelity Bank followed with account of 49.528 million shares cost N915.904 million, Access Holdings company traded 32.856 million shares cost N715.327 million, Zenith Bank traded 15.577 million shares cost N685.443 million, Nigerian Breweries traded 15.418 million shares worth N555.571 million.
