Enugu: Why I cleared salaries arrears, allowances I inherited – Council boss

The  Chairman, Enugu East local government area of Enugu state,  Hon. Livinus Nze Anike, has explained why he cleared four years outstanding leave allowances he inherited from the past administration and has paid up to date monthly salaries since he assumed office.

Anike said that at the inception of his administration, he promised not to owe staff of the council any salary, not even owing leave allowances due to the workers.

“I have cleared four years leave allowance.  I promised that I  am not going to owe any worker,” the council chairman said.

He made this known in his office at Nkwo Nike, when the good governance team, comprising the NUJ, NLC and Coalition of Civil Society Organisations, (CSO), monitoring the development projects of the council chairmen, paid him a courtesy visit.

The council boss, expounding on his achievements so far, said that he had built and completed 3.2 kilometer roads with drainage and solar street lights, while several others were ongoing.

He pointed out that he embarked on the building of an ultra-modern mini-stadium which was nearing completion, adding that he procured and installed a 350 KVA generator that supplies power to the council headquarters and environs.

According to him, he rehabilitated a hitherto moribund borehole that now providing potable water to communities in the council area as well as an ultra-modern multi-purpose hall at the council headquarters.

On security, Anike said his administration procured three Sienna busses, ten motorcycles and a Hilux Jeep to the security agencies to help ensure a better security of the council areas.

Earlier, the NLC chairman, Comrade Fabian Nwigbo explained that they embarked on the good governance tour in order to monitor democracy dividends the council bosses had delivered to their people, pointing out that it was not meant to witch-hunt or undermine any chairman but rather to spur them to action.
