The executive secretary of Jigawa State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Alhaji Haruna Mairiga, has said having partnership with nongovernmental organisations will strengthen and solidify the operation of the agency.

He said the agency needs additional equipment such as trucks for the evacuation of victims of disaster, ambulances for the emergency rescues, as well as more tents to direct the emergency camps when the disaster happens.

The executive secretary, Alhaji Mairiga, stated this in an interview with our correspondent weekend in Dutse, over the impending flood that is expected to occur this month according to experts’ prediction.

“I seek permission from the state governor, Umar Namadi, to contact some NGOs such as the United Nations Children Education Fund (UNICEF), Save the Children International (SCI) and Action Against Hunger (ACF) and individuals philanthropists,” he said.

Mairiga further stated that recently they were trained rescue techniques in Kano on how to manage and assist victims of any disaster before it happens, when it is happening and after it happened.

“Before any disaster, we had already made available all the necessary materials such as 200 bundles of sand bags, opened all drainages and water ways.

“For during the emergency, we had made available all the needed food items such as groundnut cakes, gari, over 300 bags each and prepared camps that can host many people”, Mairiga stated.

Whether experts in the country said Jigawa is among states in the federations that will probably have flood in the month of August.
