Economic crunch: More poultries shut down, billions of naira wasted

Amidst biting economic crunch in Nigeria, more poultries have been closed down.

This was disclosed by the
Poultry Farmers Association of Nigeria (PAN) at the weekend.

The association through its FCT Secretary Musa Hakeem while speaking during World Egg Day celebration in Abuja said as it stands, over N 5 billion and more than 127 poultry farms have been lost due to fuel subsidy.

He noted that other factors contributed to the loss, including forex and a ban on importing maize and soybeans.

Hakeem listed other challenges bedevilling the industry as the high rate of diseases, lack of access to credit facilities, high feed cost and poor quality chicks.
