Why we donated house to Bonfrere – FG

The Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, has given an insight into why the federal government donated a three-bedroom flat to the former Super Eagles’ Coach, Bonfrere Jo.
Fashola, who handed over the keys to the flat to Jo in Abuja, explained that allocation of the flat to him after 24 years of failed promise was an attestation to the genuineness of President Muhammadu Buhari’s change mantra.
Blueprint recalls that late General Sanni Abacha promised to allocate a three-bed room flat to Jo, when Nigeria won the 1994 edition of the African Nations Cup in Tunisia.
Jo led Nigeria’s U-23 football to the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta, U.S.A where they won gold. .
The minister, who apologised to the ex-coach that the allocation was fulfilled 24 years after the promised was made also described Buhari as a problem solver.
He expressed the optimism that the gesture extended to Jo would spur the Nigerian national team to perform very well at the 2018 edition of World Cup holding in Russia, next week.
Fashola, however, disclosed that President Muhammadu Buhari had also fulfilled a 38-year promise made to the members of the defunct Green Eagles which metamorphosed into the Super Eagles.
According to him, ex-members of Green Eagles like Segun Odegbami, Kadir Ikhana, late Muda Lawal and others, were promised houses in Ikoyi, Lagos state and other places.
But despite given allocation, he said, they were not issued letters of allocation, saying that Buhari’s government had issued those letters to them.
In his acceptance speech, Jo described the house as a surprise, and thanked the government for a promise kept.
On whether he would occupy the building, he said he would decide on it later, saying he did not have any plan on the building for now.
Jo said: “I appreciate the government for what it has done today. It has kept the promise of the former governments. I appreciate the Minister (Fashola).
