Ogun state government Wednesday solicited the support of religious leaders to join hands with the state government to sensitise members of the public on Coronavirus disease and preventive measures to adopt.
Speaking at a one-day sensitisation programme, organised by the state government at the Egba Central Mosque, Abeokuta, the state capital, the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the governor, Dapo Abiodun on health, Dr. Ololade Kehinde, said the programme was part of efforts to take personal hygiene campaign to religious leaders who will in turn educate their followers on the prevention of epidemic outbreak in the State.
The programme was organised for Islamic clerics and Dawah workers from the three senatorial districts of the state on protecting the masses against Coronavirus.
Kehinde noted that the global emergency created by COVID-19 called for collaboration from all and sundry, as nations, where there had been community infections were the worst hit.
He called on religious leaders to take the message of personal and respiratory hygiene to their members across the state to enlighten them on steps to guard against the disease.
Kehinde appealed to residents of the state to adhere strictly to all the preventive measures and equally avoid unnecessary gathering.
The leader of the World Health Organisation (WHO), Dr. Wale Famiyesi applauded the federal and state government’s efforts at the curtailing spread of COVID – 19.
Famiyesi, who is the South – south coordinator challenged the Imams to always admonish people at every gathering to be wary of the symptoms of the virus, and ensure strict adherence to the precautionary measures.
The Wakeel Muslimeen of Yorubaland, Edo and Delta states, Sheik Iskeel Lawal in his remarks, called on the federal government to organise interdenominational prayers with a view to combating the spread of Coronavirus.
Lawal who said the special prayers should be organised across the country, added that there is always spiritual dimension to fighting any crisis.
