Court remands 8 for burgling Akire palace


A Magistrates’ court sitting in Osogbo, the Osun state capital, Monday remanded eight persons in prison for allegedly burgling the palace of Akire. 


The defendants are: Akeem Okeowo (30), Hammed Raifu (34), Lakin Oyetade (35) and Okeowo Saheed (29). 


Others are, Ibrahim Musiliu, Ahmed  Sunmonu (25), Kazeem Kamorudeen (18) and Kolawole Opeyemi (23).


Police prosecutor, Inspector Elisha Olusegun, told the court that the defendants committed the alleged crime on October 26, 2020, at about 10:00am at Akire’s Palace, Ikire. 


He alleged that the defendants did willfully and unlawfully broke and entered into HRM King Olatunde Falabi’s palace and committed felony therein. 


Prosecution alleged further that the defendants did unlawfully assembled themselves and maliciously damaged one Toyota Carina car with Reg. No. AE 451 XXY property of HRM King Falabi and one Mazda car property of Chief Falana Muritala. 


The offence committed was contrary to and punishable under section 516, 414, 70 and 451 of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol ll Law of Osun State, 2002.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the allegations slammed against them by the police. 


Their Counsel, M. O. Oyeyinka, urged the court to transfer the matter to Ikire jurisdiction where the alleged offences were committed. 


He prayed the court to release the defendants on bail pending the determination of the matter. 


But, Magistrate Modupe Awodele, denied the defendants bail and ordered their remand in Ile-Ife correctional center. 

She ordered the police to duplicate the case file to the Directorate of Public Prosecution for advice and adjourned the matter to December 21, 2020 for mention at Ikire Magistrate court.
