Cattle rustlers have killed four persons in Gbaka village in the Shiroro local government area of Niger state.
It was gathered that the attack on the villager occurred on Wednesday at about 6pm.
Witnesses said several others sustained serious injuries and are now receiving treatment in hospitals.
It was gathered that some of the injured are having gunshot wounds, while others had deep cuts as a result of machete attack.
No fewer than 700 cattle and unspecified number of goats and sheep were rustled by the invaders.
“In their usual manner, scores of rustlers arrived in the village at about 6pm and started shooting sporadically to scare away the villagers.
“It was in this process that four of our people were killed and others injured and we’re still searching for some of our people that ran into the bush.’
Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bala Elkana, when contacted, however, said no report of death was recorded.
Elkana also said no arrest had been made, but added that “we are after these people, the special anti rustling squad has been mobilised to area.”
