Bye-election: Zamfara APC set to take INEC, IGP to court

All Progressive Congress (APC), Zamfara state has concluded arrangements to take Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and Inspector General of Police to court to challenge Wednesday’s Bakura Local Government State Assembly bye election.

This was made known by the state Publicity Secretary of the APC, Hon. Ibrahim Muhammad Birnin Magaji at a press conference Thursday, held in Gusau the state capital.

The party’s image maker challenged “how the INEC seemed to have compromised and started to operate as another Zamfara state agency doing the bidding of the PDP, the ruling party in the state during the election.”

He said some members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) were arrested by the operatives of the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC Sokoto Zonal Office) for an alleged vote buying during December 9, supplementary election in Bakura.

“The APC confidently joined the race because of its conviction that there will be recourse to the laid down rules and regulations by the major stakeholders such as INEC and security agencies in the exercise”, Birnin Magaji stated.

The state chapter of the APC had boycotted the supplimentary election for Bakura Local Government State Assembly conducted last Wednesday by INEC after cancellation of 14 polling units results during last Saturday election do to what the commission described as violence and over voting in the affected polling units.
