Breaking: Multichoice makes U-turn, to show AFCON 2023

DSTV and GOtv, owned by Multichoice will now air all 52 matches of the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament in Cote d’Ivoire live beginning from Saturday, 13 January, 2024.

MultiChoice had last week said SuperSport channel on DSTV would not be able to broadcast the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament live.

The company had, in a statement, said it would not be able to broadcast the tournament live because it did not secure the rights to broadcast it.

“SuperSport Channel will not broadcast the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2023 scheduled for January 13th – February 11th, 2024, because the channel has not secured the rights to broadcast the tournament.

“However, AFCON 2023 games will be available through our partner broadcast stations on Free to Air (FTA) channels,” MultiChoice had said.

But Blueprint authoritatively gathered on Wednesday that SuperSport channels will now air all AFCON matches live.

Sources said the rights are non-exclusive and will therefore be available on most bouquets on DSTV and GOtv.
