Breaking: Organised Labour summon NEC meeting as nationwide strike looms

Ahead of Wednesday’s scheduled nationwide strike, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) have summoned an extraordinary National Executive Council (NEC), meeting.

During the meeting, the organised labour will review the modalities of the planned strike following attack on the National President of the NLC, Joe Ajaero, review the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the Federal Government and the Organised Labour on October 2, 2023, following the removal of the subsidy on fuel.

TUC’s National Vice-President, Tommy Etim, disclosed this on Tuesday.

The organised labour had on Friday last week, issued a five-day ultimatum ahead of its protest against Ajaero’s arrest in Owerri, Imo state.

The labour demanded the redeployment of the commissioner of police in the state and the arrest and prosecution of the aide of the governor alleged to have perpetrated the attack.

The unions also threatened to embark on a nationwide strike if their demands were not met in five days.

Ajaero was arrested by the police ahead of the state-wide protest in Imo on Wednesday.
