Brazil paint New Caledonia with goals in U17 World Cup clash

Brazil beat New Caledonia 9-0 at the 2023 FIFA U17 World Cup on Tuesday.

Fluminense forward Kaua Elias scored a hat-trick at the Jakarta International Stadium.

Vasco da Gama forward Rayan netted twice, while Estevao Willian, Luighi, Vitor Reis and Joao Souza also got on the scoresheet.

New Caledonia registered six attempts at goal, while Brazil had 77 shots, including 41 from inside the penalty area.

But the game had remained 0-0 until the floodgates opened in the 28th minute.

Despite Tuesday’s huge win, Brazil may have to beat England in order to finish first or second in Group C.

That is because Brazil fell to a shock 3-2 defeat by Iran last Saturday.

Meanwhile, England thrashed New Caledonia 10-0 at the weekend. Two of those 10 goals were scored by Manchester City starlet Justin Oke Oboavwoduo.

Brazil and England will now meet on Friday.

It is possible that Brazil could lose to England and still progress to the round of 16, with four of the six teams that finish third in the group stage set to go through to the knockout phase.
