Benue police to inaugurate joint patrol team on herders, farmers’ crisis

The Commissioner of Police, Benue state Command, Fatai Owoseni, has said that the Command “will soon inaugurate a Joint Patrol team, comprising security, herdsmen, local farmers and traditional rulers to ensure peace in Benue.
” The Police boss, who held a meeting yesterday with leadership of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) and stakeholders of the herdsmen in Benue, said the joint patrol team “will work together to ensure peace in the state for the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) to return to their homes.
“We have been making several efforts to bring herdsmen together for dialogue and our efforts were what resulted to the meeting the governor of Benue state had with north central leadership of MACBAN recently.
“This is to ensure that the ongoing killings in the state come to an end.
The killings must stop from now, henceforth.
The patrols would take-off at fl ashpoints identifi ed by security agencies and other stakeholders.
” He said the team would also look at emerging threats and also address hostilities that earlier took place with a view to finding a permanent solution to them
