Benue Assembly recalls 2 members out of suspended 4

The Benue state House of Assembly on Friday lifted the suspension placed on of two out of the four of its members axed at plenary on December 4, 2023.

The four members suspended were: Solomon Gyila, representing Gwer West State Constituency; Douglass Akya, member representing Makurdi South; Dyako Ashwa, representing Konshisha state constituency, and Anthony Agom of Okpokwu state constituency.

They were suspended for constituting a “clog in the smooth running of the legislative business of the House of Assembly.”

However, at its sitting on Friday, the House lifted the suspension of Solomon Gyila and Anthony Agom.

Isaac Agbo, representing Ohimini state constituency moved a motion for the House to vacate the three months’ suspension on the members.

The motion was seconded by Michael Audu, the minority leader and member representing Adoka/Ugbouju state constituency.

Agbo, said if the members remained suspended they would be denied representation for their people, adding that if members remained united, no problem encountered would be insurmountable.

The speaker, Hyacinth Aondona Dajo, who presided over the sitting, said although the house was willing to lift the suspension of all the members affected, only two showed remorse and would be granted “immediately while the remaining two, including Douglass Akya and Dyako Ashwa will be given more time to reconsider their position.”
