Basketball federation re-elects Umar as president

Th e incumbent president of the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF), Tijani Umar, has been re-elected to steering the aff airs of the body till 2021. Th e NBBF board election which held yesterday in Kano also saw former captain of the national senior men’s basketball team, D’ Tigers, Olumide Oyedeji emerging as vice-president.

According to a release by the spokesman of the NBBF, Patrick Omorodion, other offi cials elected into in the board include D’Tigress chief coach, Scott Nnaji (coaches), the International Basketball Federation (FIBA – world) representative, Muktar Kaleh; FIBA Africa representative, Dr Joseph Adeyemo from Kwara and North Central representative, Mustapha Suleiman from Kano, Tunde Popoola (referees) Scambo Morrison (technical commission), Mrs Margaret Porbeni, representing Nigerian Women in Sports (NAWIS), Segun Famuyiwa for North West, Ejike Paul Medus for South West and Stanley Gumut for South East also make up the composition of the board.

A bye-election would be conducted at a later date according to the chairman of the electoral panel, Kennedy Osunwa. Th e release further stated that no election was held for the South South zonal representative. Th e NBBF election was held a day earlier than the general election into all sports federations being organised by the Nigerian sports ministry
