At 62, Nigeria yet to tap greatest part of our raw materials – DG RMRDC

The Director General Raw Materials Research and Development Council (RMRDC) Professor Hussain Doko Ibrahim has said the responsibility of making Nigeria great lies on individual citizens, irrespective of whatever level one occupies.

He also urged those in the civil service to keep the faith alive as the burden lies on every Nigerian to move the nation forward.

Professor Ibrahim stated this in his message of commemoration of Nigeria’s 62nd independence anniversary.

He said  the independence anniversary should be another opportunity for Nigerians to rededicate themselves to the cause of nationhood, adding “we have a greater future ahead of us, as this nation called Nigeria is moving to greater height andyet to tap greatest part of our raw materials.”

“As a nation, Nigeria is endowed with numerous raw materials and our youths should get more involved in the agricultural sector even from their comfort zone, in order to help the federal government with the intention of totally eliminating hunger from the country.

“The Council is established to develop and utilise Nigeria’s industrial raw materials. It also provides information that would enable the formulation of appropriate policies for domestic raw materials exploitation, development, utilisation and investment. At the RMRDC, we  will stop at nothing until we achieve the dream of Nigerians,” he said.

Ibrahim called on the federal government “to revamp the iron and steel sector to save the economy, boost industrial, building and fabrication sectors and create massive jobs in the value chain as Nigeria is moving from a resource to a knowledge-based economy.

“We are gradually overcoming our import syndrome, but as a nation we can still do more and do away with importation of certain materials we can generate here at home. It is s a statement of fact that we are far from tapping a greater part of our potentials in the area of our raw materials. This is one area we must reflect on at 62 years of nationhood.”
