ASUP strike worries polytechnic governing councils

Chairman of the governing council of the Federal Polytechnic Bida, Theophilus Bamigboye, has described the ongoing strike by the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) as “worrisome,” explaining that the councils had scheduled a meeting with the Minister of Education towards resolving the crisis.

Bamigboye stated this yesterday in Minna while fielding questions from journalists after paying a courtesy call on Governor Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu of Niger state.

He said the polytechnic governing councils were concerned about the continuous stay at home of students, stressing that “we have decided to meet with the minister of education and if possible with the President to resolve the crisis.”
He said that his council will initiate new innovations in Bida polytechnic to enhance the academic excellence for which the institution had been known.

He said the institution was preparing to host this year’s NAPUGA in June/July, adding that he was in Minna to properly brief the governor on the preparations for the Games.

Aliyu pledged the support of the state government in ensuring the successful hosting of the Games and directed the Commissioner for Sports to liaise with the rector of the polytechnic for proper coordination of the programme.
