Anambra: Another lawmaker is dead

The member representing Awka 2 constituency in Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon. Nnamdi Okafor, Tuesday, reportedly slumped and died in his hotel room at Johannesburg, South Africa.

Okafor, a pharmacist by profession and two-time lawmaker, was at South Africa alongside other legislators for a possible legislative retreat and recess.

Although, there had not been official release to authenticate or denounce the news of his death by both State Assembly and All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), some government officials and party members were already trending the news of the demise of the Majority Leader on their social media handles.

Blueprint reports that Okafor contested for Awka North and Awka South Federal Constituency primary election held some months ago by APGA but was defeated by Hon. Obi Nwankwo, a former three-time commissioner in the state.

Similarly, an online viral results’ sheets indicated that he later participated on the Federal House of Representatives primary poll held by Labour Party and lost out to a Lecturer, Prof. Lillian Orogbu.

The news of Hon. Okafor’s death made it second person to have died as a lawmaker in the 8th Assembly since the member representing Aguata 1 constituency where Governor Chukwuma Soludo hails from, Hon. Okechukwu Okoye, died in the kidnappers’ den three months ago.
