Anambra: 6 die, police stations burnt, as Obiano suspends 2021 budget presentation

About six police stations have been reportedly burnt down with some unidentifiable corpses found at some parts of Anambra state as #EndSARS protests continued.
The burnt police formations reportedly include Ogidi police station, 33 police station and two police stations in Nnewi commercial town.

It was also learnt that the act has left Nkpor junction express way to Upper Iweka, Onitsha main market as well as markets at Nkpor, Nkwo Nnewi, bridge head empty with travellers having hectic time.
Sources alleged that a policeman was killed at Ogidi police station while attempting to stop the protesters who claimed that four of their members were shut by the police.
Also, a corpse found close to the Ogidi police station was carried away by the protesters, the source added.

However, the Anambra state Police command was yet to publish an official statement on the issue even as calls and WhatsApp messages sent to the State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Haruna Mohammed Haruna, were not responded to as at press time.

The mayhem, Blueprint learnt, led the Anambra State House of Assembly and governor Willie Obiano to suspend indefinitely, the 2021 budget presentation before the house.
The Speaker of the House, Honourable Uche Okafor, during an emergency plenary on Thursday in Awka, said the budget would be presented in near future, urging youths to cease protest and President Muhammadu Buhari to address the nation with a view to bringing normalcy to the nation.
