Amnstey debate: BSU student overcomes ABU, UNIbadan, others to emerge overall best [PICTURES]

One of the brightest prospects in the Law profession and a student of Benue State University (BSU), Miss Sandra Idoko, has emerged the overall best in the just concluded intervarsity debate organised by the Amnesty International on human rights.

The national competition with various universities in participation, culminated to the final.

Among the schools which Idoko beat their students to win it all at last include Ahmadu Bello University Zaria (ABU), Baze University Abuja, Bingham University, Covenant University, Enugu state University of Science and Technology, Nnamdi Azikwe University, University of Benin, University of Ibadan and Veritas University.

While appearing before BSU council chamber on Thursday May 25, 2023 in Makurdi, upon her return from Lagos where the final of competition was staged, Idoko whose joy knew no bound presented a brand new laptop, special recognition plaque among others being the prizes she won, before council in session.

Speaking thereafter, an elated Miss Idoko who bagged Ratels Sports Development Foundation (RSDF) scholarship said, “I’m very delighted. This will serve as a push for me to continue to study hard.”

On his part, the Pro Chancellor of BSU and school’s Council Chairman, Chief Sebastine Tar Hon, SAN, before the Vice Chancellor Prof. Tor Joe Iorapuu and other council members, hailed Miss Idoko for representing and making BSU proud, adding, “You have combined your beauty with knowledge… It goes to show that you are from good home and you know what you are here for. Keep it up.”

He then announced, “On behalf of council, management will reward you with N250, 000 as a token of appreciation.”

RSDF President, Barr. Paul Edeh, while donating the sum of N300, 000 to the Dean Faculty of Law in BSU, Prof. Ukooh Ikoni, on behalf of Council, assured of his readiness to extend Miss Idoko’s scholarship to Law school after her graduation.

He commended her for remaining focused in her studies while in the institution.

“We will continue to support the cause of humanity. I’m passionate about young people. Seeing them excel spurs me to do more,” Barr. Edeh who is the proprietor of one of the highly rated women football clubs in Nigeria  Naija Ratels said.
