AMAC Chair laments corruption, partisanship of workers

Chairman, Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Christopher Zakka Maikalangu, has restated that he will continue to ensure that workers welfare is his number one priority, noting that his administration is on the speed lane and want to work with anybody who will be on the same page with the administration.

Maikalangu made this known to journalists on Tuesday, while receiving the Admin. Secretary Area Councils Service Commission, Barr. Muhammed Musa Loko, in Abuja.

He noted that the policy conceived by his leadership is with the objectives of improving productivity as well as attracting, nurturing and retaining the best employees within the service.

Maikalangu vowed that AMAC must not be seen as a dumping ground for job seekers, but must attract the best and the brightest, who will contribute fresh ideas and show a determination to solve our socio-economic problems in line with our policy  of running an open, transparent and accountable administration.

He said: “Since we came on board, despite the dwindling federal allocations, we have done our best towards ensuring that workers salaries are paid as when due in spite of the continuous shortfall in our statutory revenues.

“We will continue to ensure that workers welfare is our number one priority. We have taken measures to ensure a total blockage of revenue leakages in the council. New policies are being introduced and more policies will be coming onboard in matter of days.

“Unfortunately, we have discovered that some workers here are either partisan or are conniving with the so-called consultants to perpetrate corruption and some were evidently agents and surrogates of their paymasters.”

He reiterated that the council will no longer treat proven acts of corruption with kid gloves, neither would it condone lateness to work, truancy and absenteeism, adding, “The Commission, Head of Administration and other Heads should please assist us in this direction.”
