Adesuwa becomes 23rd president of Rotary Club of Asokoro

Rotarian Agbontaen Adesuwa has been installed as the 23rd President of Rotary Club of Aosokro, Abuja.

The colourful investiture which also afforded the club the opportunity of bestowing awards of recognition for commitment to humanitarian services to eminent personalities, former chief of army staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai (rtd), Vice Adm. Ibok Ete-Ekwe Ibas (rtd), Dr. Magdalene Ajani, permanent secretary, Ministry of Transport, Dr. Adelana Olamilekan, MD/CEO Zenith Cared Int’l ltd who was also the chairman of the occasion, and many other awardees.

Speaking on how he felt about the day which also had distinguished Rotarians in attendance, Rotarian Adesuwa said he joined Rotary because he believes in its motto which says “Service above Self.”

He said he has seen firsthand how the club made a difference in the community and in the world.

“We have supported various projects such as polio vaccination programmes, cataract surgeries outreach, hepatitis screening and vaccination and community empowerment schemes. We have also fostered friendship and fellowship among ourselves and with other clubs,” he said.

Rotarian Agbontaen said there is still more work to be done, adding that there are many challenges and opportunities that await us and that is why the theme for this year is “Create Hope in the World,” he stated.

Rotarian Agbontaen, an Optometric and Lecturer at the department of Optometry, Bingham University, Nassarawa state further said many people are facing physical and mental health challenges due to the pandemic, poverty, conflict, and other factors.
