Adamawa clears workers’ salary arrears

Adamawa Government has confirmed the release of N4.7 billion for the payment of outstanding salary arrears for primary school teachers, health workers and local government staff.
Governor Muhammadu Bindow Jibrilla disclosed this at an All Progressives Congress (APC) Women Wing Stakeholders’ meeting held in Yola, the state capital.
Bindow, who was represented by his Chief of Staff, Alhaji Abdurrahman Abba-Jimeta, said also the development was part of the Paris Club fund, where Adamawa was allocated N12.8 billion and had so far received N4.8 billion.

“This was the fallout of President Muhammadu Buhari’s intervention programme to enable state governments to pay outstanding salary arrears, especially for local government staff.
“The state was allocated N12.8 billion and so far received N 4.8 billion in which N4.7 billion was immediately released for the payment of the outstanding arrears,” he said.
He added that teachers and primary health workers had so far received three months’ salary arrears each and that local government staff were paid two months’ salary arrears.

He confirmed that “very soon if the remaining balance will be released to complete the payment of the remaining areas, including the payment of pensioners.”
Bindow noted that women had effectively played a great role in bringing him into power in 2015 general elections.
He further explained that in 2017 budget, government had prepared to upgrade and expand some health care centres in order to improve maternal and child health.
In her address, wife of the governor, Hajia Maryam Bindow, said the core objective of the meeting was to identify, thank and show appreciation to APC women from ward to state levels for their support and great role during the 2015 electioneering.
