Activists protest against climate change

Youth activists in the country under the aegis of 'Activista Nigeria' Monday took to the street in Abuja to Raise awareness on Climate Change and the need for Climate Justice.
National coordinator of 'Activista Nigeria' Mary Jacob Okwuosa who led the rally lamented that Nigeria and some African nations are yet to face the reality of climate change.
According to her, despite the profits the country taps from oil exploration, it failed to invest to addres the effects of such exploration and mining activities on the climate fearing that if attention is not given by the government to handle climate change, it will pose serious catastrophe on the nation.

" Oil had for decades been the major source of income in Nigeria, yet we have paid zero attention to the effects such leisures are causing our climate. We have generated a whole lot from it and have failed to invest at all to sustain the climate."

She cautioned that the rate at which the climate is changing is promising disaster in the nearest future, which is a reason for every nation on earth to handle it as an urgent issue.

" Today, Activista Nigeria marches with other stakeholders with the guide of ActionAid Nigeria, to speak our minds, create awareness of the state and future of our climate and to demand for Climate Justice in Nigeria as much as we join our voices with the rest of the world to demand for that". She said.
