Access Bank posts N56.4bn profit in Q3

Access Bank posted profit of N56.395 billion for the third quarter financial year ended September 30, 2017. The result showed an increase of N2.325 billion or 4.3 per cent compared with N54.08 billion reported in the corresponding period of last year. The bank ‘s submitted at the Nigerian Stock Exchange showed that profit before tax rose from N68.989 billion achieved in the preceding year to N72.910 billion within the year under review. Interest Income also surged from N181.210 billion. achieved in the comparable period to N245.873 billion while interest expenses grew to ( N124.400 billion) from ( N74.837 billion). An analysis of the Bank’s nine months financial result indicated that fee and commission income declined to N38.798 billion from N45.605 billion made in the preceding year, Net fee and commission income went down to N38.431 billion from N45.237 billion. The result showed that total assets stood at N3.540 trillion from N3.483 trillion recorded in the comparative period of 2016, Loan and advances to customers down to N1.777 trillion from N1.809 trillion. Total Liabilities on the hand went to N3.035 trillion against N3.029 trillion reported the same period in 2016. Deposit from customers declined to N1.924 trillion from N2.089 trillion in 2016 third quarter financial year.
Customs intercepts 2 containers of controlled drugs
The Tin Can Island Port Command of the Nigeria Customs Service, has intercepted two 40ft fully loaded containers of a controlled drug, Tramador falsely declared as vehicles.
In a statement signed by the command’s spokesman, Mr Uche Ejesieme yesterday, the Customs command said it had handed over the seized contraband drug imports to the National Agency for Foods, Drugs, Administration and Control (NAFDAC) on Friday 20th October 2017.
The containers with Nos. MSKU 071916/0 and MRKU 256545/8, were falsely declared as vehicles, cartons of makeup items and Computer Accessories respectively by the importers.
“This discovery was sequel to the latest operational methodology adopted by the Command through profiling, cargo selectivity and system checks of the advance electronic manifest,”the statement said, quoting the Customs Area Controller Comptroller Bashar Yusuf.
Yusuf stated that the command is adopting these procedures to ensure that all imports are electronically monitored with a view to identifying non-compliant declarations and other infractions which could jeopardize the change ideology of the Service.
He stated that the containers were flagged following some discrepancies in the documentation and declaration made in the Single Goods Declaration (SGD) form C 2010, hence the need for further checks.
The Controller pointed out that the declarations made on SGD C-No. 13473 of 09-02-2017 and SGD C- N0. 84118 of 24-08-2017 were at variance with the contents in the system bill lading, which fuelled the suspicion. He gave the Importers names as J. S. Akuasosi Nig. Enterprises Ltd. of No. 31 Balogun Street Amuwo Odofin, Lagos and Del-Dominion Gold Ventures of No. 5 Borno Crescent Apapa – Lagos and S. Chinax Services Nig. Ltd. of No. 5 Industrial Road Port-Harcourt and Robby Concept Int’l Agency Ltd. of Mini Flat 4 Nnewi building Apapa-Lagos, as declarants.
Following a 100 per cent examination, the containers were found to contain 240 cartons of New Royal Tramadol Hydrochloride 225mg Tablets, 240 Cartons of Double Extra Strong Tramadol 200mg, 240 Cartons of Super Power Tramadol Hydrochloride, 70 Cartons of Ibamol – Diclofenac Sodium Capsules 50mg and 60 Cartons of Really Extra – Analgesique.
The other containers also contained 240 cartons of New Royal Tramadol Hydrochloride 225mg Tablets, 60 Cartons of Really Extra – Analgesique, Antipyretique, Anti-Inflammatoire Tablets, 240 Cartons of Double Extra Strong Tramadol 200mg, 240 Cartons of Super Power Tramadol Hydrochloride and 70 Cartons of Ibamol – Diclofenac Sodium Capsules 50mg.
“These declarations are contrary to the said to contain three units of used vehicles, cartons of makeup kits, 850 cartons of computer accessories (keyboard and mouse).
