Jigawa state government may not conduct the scheduled February 13, 2016 local government election due to financial crunch it is facing and other political reason, Blueprint has learnt.
It was gathered that despite the State Independent Electoral Commission (JIESEC) fixing of February 13, no single kobo was given to the commission in respect of the elections.
Investigation by our Correspondent in Dutse revealed that the opposition Peoples Democratic party (PDP) has concluded its primaries in all the 27 local governments of the state and even commenced purchasing nomination forms , but may be disappointed as the
elections may be postponed till further notice.
Blueprint has learnt that the state local government electoral law No. 3 of 20108 has been amended by the state House of Assembly to support the government’s plan of postponing the elections.
When contacted on the matter , the member representing Ringim local government in the Assembly, Hon. Aminu Sule Sankara confirmed that section 5 sub-section 1 of that law has been amended and the bill has been passed, adding that governor Badaru Abubakar, has already accented the bill in to an act.
”You journalists suppose to commend our governor for allowing the PDP local governments councils , he is the only governor in Nigeria that did not dissolve the local government councils because of his magnanimity and patience,’’.
He said that the new law has empowered governor Badaru to appoint interim management officers with chairmen as non-partisan politicians, while other four members may include partisan politicians.
