Sokoto commissioner is dead

The Sokoto state Commissioner of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Alhaji Muhammad Arzika Tureta, is dead.

He died in the early hours of Monday at the Usman Danfodio University Teaching Hospital, Sokoto, following a protracted illness.

He has been a commissioner in Sokoto state since 2007 when the then governor of Sokoto state, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko appointed him to his cabinet and posted him to Ministry of Education.

He served in that capacity through the tenure of Wamakko, while in 2015, the current Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal reappointed and posted him to the Ministry of Water Resources and redeployed him to the Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs and later, Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources.

Arzika Tureta was a school principal andformer lecturer at the College of Arts and Science, Sokoto. He joined partisan politics in 1999, contested and won the House of Assembly seat, representing Tureta constituency on the platform of the defunct National Republican Convention (NRC).

In 1999, Tureta contested and won House of Representatives election on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), representing Bodinga, Dange Shuni and Tureta federal constituency.
