FG hands over old Airport to Bauchi for estate construction


The federal government has handed over the old Bauchi state air strip located at GRA to the state government for the construction of an estate.


Blueprint reports that the old air strip was initiated by the administration of former president Shehu Shagari.


Bauchi state commissioner of works Abdulkadir Ibrahim while briefing journalists Wednesday on the outcome of the state executive council meeting said the state has got federal government’s approval to convert the place into an estate.


The commissioner explained that the new estate to be named ‘Kaura modern city’ would be official residences for commissioners, judges, state assembly members and top government officials.


According to him, the old airstrip was used by criminals to commit robbery and rape in the night noting that the federal government is satisfied with the project the state intends to execute there.


He stated that the new estate would have social amenities like school, hospital, shops and road. 


Recall that the government has built another estates containing 1, 600 houses in six emirates of Bauchi, Katagum, Misau, Ningi, Jama’are and Dass which would be distributed to the poor citizens after completion.
