Jigawa state government said it will support enshrined roles of traditional institutions in constitutional amendment, especially issues bordering on security of lives and property of the citizenry.
Th is assertion was made by the Attorney-General and Commissioner of Justice, Barrister Sani Hussaini Garun Gabas (SAN), while responding to the speech made by the Emir of Kazuare , during the Hawan Bariki Sallah Homage held in Kazaure at the weekend.
He said that the state government would back-up proposal of giving traditional institution a constitutional role in the ongoing constitutional amendment because of their importance in the provision of security in the country.
Gabas cited instances in the past, “where any visitor or stranger who comes to town must go to the palace to present he or herself for screening before being accommodated in that particular town”.
He disclosed that the most challenging problem government was facing was the issue of security.
Saying, therefore, that “emirs and chiefs have greater roles to play in governance for sustenance of national unity, peace and security.
‘’So, traditional leaders have very important roles to play, by using their charisma and position to quell unrest in the society because people respect and answer their calls, instantly, during period of emergencies,’’ he added.
Earlier in his address, the Emir of Kazaure, Alhaji Najib Hussainin Adamu, stated that God had blessed Jigawa with a justifi able leader, who live in peace with each and every body, including the non-indigenes saying, that was why people of the state had confi dence in him.
He said their missions and visions of the state and local governments were the same on how to upliftment the lives of the masses.
“If our people are happy, we as leaders too are happy, likewise if they are disturbed, we are equally worry,’’ he added.
Th e Emir who thanked God for blessing his people with bumper harvest, therefore, admonished them to give out Zakat of food stuff s, animals and money to purify their wealth and thanked people of his emirate for support, cooperation and respect they accorded himalways.
